Intern in Counseling
I am a Intern in Counseling in the state of Virginia, under the clinical supervision of our clinical director, Dr. Jill Nardin.
Clinical Focus Areas & Counseling Approach
I provide in-person (Yorktown) and online therapy for individuals ages 8 and up. I am passionate about working with first responders, the perinatal population, the neurodiverse, and those navigating grief, trauma, anxiety, or depression.
My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and explicitly neuroaffirming. I view neurodiversity as a natural and valuable part of human variation—not something to be fixed. I am committed to creating an inclusive space that honors different communication styles, sensory needs, and ways of processing, and I collaborate with clients to build strengths and support rather than pathologize differences. I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Somatic Therapy with insight-oriented, collaborative techniques.
Professional Philosophy
Counseling is not an easy process, and reaching out for support can feel overwhelming. I approach each session with the belief that what you bring is meaningful and deserving of care. My philosophy is rooted in respect, curiosity, and collaboration, viewing you as the expert of your own life. Through a neuroaffirming, trauma-informed lens, I focus on honoring your unique experiences and strengths rather than “fixing” you. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can show up authentically, build self-compassion, and move toward meaningful, values-driven change at your own pace.
Professional Experience
I earned my M.S.Ed. in clinical mental health counseling from Old Dominion University. I also have over 10 years of experience working in a variety of mental health organizations. I have served in inpatient settings, providing direct support to those experiencing a mental health crisis. I have also worked in community outreach, mental health skill building, and case management for the Behavioral Health Docket program with the Hampton-Newport News CSB.
